About this website

I am not Richard Bornat or Dick Toms.

They were, respectively, my Uncle and Great Uncle.

Dick wrote and published "Another's Harvest" in Bengal in 1947, and Richard re-published it on the Internet in 2006.

Like Richard, I had not been aware of Dick's book on India, but I did read it when he did the hard work of rescuing it from a poor photocopy, laying it out properly with LaTex and publishing it as a PDF file.

Like him I was struck by the subject, a first-hand account of Bengal three years after the terrible famine, and towards the end of "British India."

When Richard died on 8th January 2006, I was reminded of my intention of putting "Another's Harvest" onto a website. The work of creating this website is trivial compared to what Richard did in rescuing the work from poor photocopies.

Creating this website.

For anyone interested, this website was created with Org in GNU Emacs, using its publishing system to export the website.

I wanted to keep it simple, without any "frameworks" and such. I publish it online to Surge.sh using a so-called "deployment pipeline", which is fancy words for a Bash script including some GNU Emacs batch operations.
